Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park

Freycinet National Park on Tasmania’s east coast is known for its pink granite mountains and clear bays.

Coles Bay serves as a gateway to Freycinet National Park and offers basic amenities, including cafes and a small selection of shops. Its coastal position makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the surrounding coastline. Many trails depart from this small town, giving visitors easy access to the park’s popular hiking trails.

The national park is most noted for its panoramic views over Wineglass Bay, a curved beach often seen in photos of Tasmania. Trails range from short walks to longer, more demanding hikes. A popular route is the track to Wineglass Bay Lookout, taking about an hour each way.

Visitors can also enjoy activities like kayaking, birdwatching and camping. The area’s wildlife is diverse, with wallabies, echidnas and several bird species regularly spotted.
