Dover & far south Tasmania
Dover, a small coastal town in southern Tasmania, lies along Esperance Bay and offers views of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel. Located approximately 80km south of Hobart, Dover serves as a gateway to Tasmania’s far south and is surrounded by forests, farmland and waterways. Its quiet atmosphere and scenic location make it a base for exploring nearby wilderness areas and coastal landscapes.
The town has a history rooted in fishing, apple orchards and timber. These industries have shaped Dover’s character, and remnants of this heritage can be seen throughout the area. Visitors will find a handful of cafes, small shops and accommodation options within the town centre. Dover’s waterfront area provides access to sheltered beaches, walking paths and views towards Bruny Island.
Dover also acts as an entry point to the Southwest National Park, known for its rugged terrain and temperate rainforests. Popular nearby activities include fishing, kayaking, and bushwalking. Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs are less than a 30-minute drive away, providing an opportunity to explore limestone caves and relax in natural spring water.
