Huonville

Around 40km south of Hobart, Huonville lies on the banks of the Huon River, surrounded by agricultural land, orchards and forested hills. The town has a long association with apple production and other forms of agriculture, which continue to shape its economy and landscape.

Huonville’s location makes it a convenient base for exploring the Huon Valley and surrounding areas, known for scenic drives, orchards and national parks. The town itself offers basic amenities, including shops, cafes and accommodation, catering to both locals and visitors. The Huon River, which flows through the town, provides opportunities for outdoor activities such as kayaking and fishing. Along the riverbank, a riverside park and walking track allow for short, relaxing strolls with views of the surrounding countryside.

Historically, Huonville and the greater Huon Valley have been linked to Tasmania’s apple industry. While apple production has declined, the area still hosts orchards and annual events that celebrate this agricultural heritage. Today, vineyards and berry farms have joined the region’s agricultural landscape, adding to its appeal for visitors interested in local produce.

Huonville also provides access to popular natural attractions such as the Hartz Mountains National Park and Tahune AirWalk.
