Stanley
Stanley is a small coastal town in Tasmania’s north-west that is best known for the distinctive geological formation called The Nut.
The Nut, a volcanic plug rising 143m above sea level, dominates the town’s landscape. This geological feature provides a distinctive visual landmark for visitors. Walking tracks allow exploration of its surrounding environment.
Historical buildings provide insights into colonial architectural practices. The Highfield Historic Site demonstrates early colonial settlement patterns. Many nineteenth-century buildings remain, representing different architectural styles from Tasmania’s colonial period.
