The Burnie Regional Art Gallery represents an important space for local and regional artistic expression. Its collection and exhibitions reflect the diverse artistic traditions of northern Tasmania.
What to see at the Burnie Regional Art Gallery
The gallery has a permanent collection and also hosts a programme of rotating temporary exhibitions. Local Tasmanian artists feature prominently in the exhibition schedule.
Permanent collections include significant works by north-west Tasmanian artists. These collections document the region’s artistic development over several decades. Ceramics, paintings and mixed media works are particularly well-represented.

Burnie Print Prize Exhibition 2025
The Burnie Print Prize Exhibition (14 March–16 May 2025) is a national competition showcasing contemporary Australian printmaking. The main prize is $17,000, with additional awards for emerging artists and people’s choice. Artists can submit prints or books made using traditional printmaking methods. Digital reproductions are accepted if the original used print techniques. The exhibition aims to develop the gallery’s collection and promote printmaking innovation.
Visiting the Burnie Regional Art Gallery
The gallery is on Wilmot Street in central Burnie. It is only a three-minute walk from the Burnie Regional Museum and most other points of interest in the city centre are no more than a 10-minute walk away.
Although currently closed for renovations, it is usually open Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year.
