Lake St Clair Visitor Centre–Watersmeet
The walk begins at the Lake St Clair Visitor Centre. Signs mark the start of the trail, and maps are available inside the centre. Public toilets and a café are located here, making it a convenient place to prepare before setting off.

The trail starts with a wide, flat path leading into cool temperate rainforest. Moss covers tree trunks and rocks, creating a shaded, tranquil environment. Species such as myrtle beech and tree ferns are common along this section.

About halfway along the loop, you reach Watersmeet, where the Hugel and Cuvier rivers join. A wooden bridge crosses the river junction, offering views of the flowing water. This area is a good spot to pause and listen to the sounds of the river. Interpretive signs provide information about the local ecosystem.

Platypus Bay
From Watersmeet, a short detour leads to Platypus Bay. The bay provides a chance to see Lake St Clair’s calm waters and, occasionally, a platypus. Early mornings and evenings increase the likelihood of spotting wildlife here.

Return path
The final stretch of the loop follows the river back towards the visitor centre. The trail remains flat, with occasional benches for resting. The path meanders through more forest, offering glimpses of birdlife such as black currawongs and green rosellas.
